At Primal Pantry, we’re all about no-nonsense nutrition. That’s why we’re crazy about hemp protein – and why you’ll find it in all our high-protein bars. Hemp is natural, clean, and packs a mighty protein punch. It’s good for our planet, good for your body, and keeps you feeling fuller for longer; from work to workout, and everything in between.
HEMP FAST FACTS
Hemp has serious crop cred. It’s been cultivated for over 10,000 years, and some say it may have been the world’s first agricultural crop. It’s been used to make everything from fabric to rope to paper. Heck, even Henry VIII had farmers plant it to make sail cloth for the naval fleet!
Hemp scores sustainability points too. It needs less than four times the water to grow, compared to other plants of a similar size. It’s also almost entirely carbon neutral and grows to an incredible 10-20 feet in just four months. And because insects aren’t fans of the plant, it’s virtually pesticide-free, making it a top organic crop.
HEMP: A HEALTHIER PROTEIN
Picking protein can be daunting, and it’s hard to spot an honestly healthy choice. Whey is found in loads of supplements, snacks and shakes but it’s hard to digest and because it’s derived from dairy, isn’t suitable for vegans or those with lactose intolerance.
Plant protein is a better option, although many such as pea, rice, and soy lack the nutritional value and protein punch of whey. They also require a lot of complex processing to extract the protein from the plant.
You’ll be happy to know hemp ticks all the boxes. First, it isn’t processed as much as other plants, so you can be sure it’s a seriously clean protein. It also has all 20 amino acids that are found in a chicken breast, making it one of the only plants on the planet to be deemed a ‘complete’ protein. That means it’s the perfect protein choice for both vegans and non-vegans.
On top of all that, hemp has the perfect balance of omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids. These protect your skin from the sun, boost immunity, and are anti-inflammatory.
Hemp also has three times more vitamin E than flax seeds. Plus, it’s high in vitamins C, B1, B2, B3 and B6, and offers a smorgasbord of essential minerals: Phosphorus, Potassium, Magnesium, Sulfur, Calcium, Iron, Manganese, Zinc Sodium, Silicon, Copper Platinum, Boron, Nickel, Germanium, Tin, Iodine, Chromium, Silver, and Lithium.
Talk about a nutritional powerhouse!
HOW MUCH PROTEIN DO YOU REALLY NEED?
OK, so we know hemp is an awesome protein source. But how much protein should you eat? There’s no magic number, because it all depends on your training, your body and your metabolism. But between meals, 15 grams of protein can keep hunger at bay, and help you get the most out of your day – and your workout.
That’s why our protein bars have 12 grams of hemp protein with a 90% concentration. All of our bars are made with 100% real food too.
